FAQ

Setting up a wireless monitoring system usually is a straightforward procedure. However, at times you might encounter difficulties due to signal interference from wireless devices operating nearby. We encourage you to read about how to fix problems associated with wireless camera set up. If that does not help, please feel free to contact us for advice using Feedback form.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why do we need a wireless camera?
A wired camera requires interconnections from the camera to a TV, VCR or a monitoring device. A wireless camera does not require cables. Video (and audio) signals are sent using a radio frequency to a receiver which in turn is connected to storage and/or monitoring equipment. The advantage is, you don't need to lay wires here and there. No need to make holes through the walls. Wires are open to manipulation, weather and wear and tear. A wireless camera is a neat solution compared to a wired camera.

  • Is it possible that someone else can receive the video relayed by my wireless camera?
It is possible to watch the video relayed by your wireless camera in your neighbourhood in case a person tunes the receiver on the same channel as your camera is broadcasting on. Also, that person has to be within range (usually 100 meters or less) or else, must be using a powerful receiver.

  • Do the wireless cameras transmit encrypted signals?
No, our wireless cameras do not transmit encrypted audio or video.

Troubleshooting

Problem: Interference with 2.4Ghz wireless equipment?
It is possible to experience interference from 2.4Ghz phones or wireless internet. Also garage door openers, alarm systems and other devices on the 2.4Ghz frequency can cause interference. Microwave ovens and similar devices can also cause occasional interference. Some 2.4Ghz phones or wireless internet solutions have a setting that allows them to identify the frequencies in use and select different frequencies while others may have to be switched manually using a "channel" or other button on the phone/transmitter or on the receiver.

Problem: System is ON, but there is no picture on TV.
First consult your TV or VCR manual. Then, make sure the video is cable plugged into the yellow video INPUT of your TV or VCR. Next make sure the transmitter and receiver are on the same channel. After this press the input or AUX button on your television or VCR remote. You may also have to scroll through channels on your television to get to AUX/input channel. If the receiver is connected to your VCR, make sure your TV is on the proper channel. You may also have to press a TV/VCR button.

Problem: Power Adapters for "Wireless Camera"?
Wireless cameras do not have a video cable that runs from the camera to the recording device. Like all electronics they must still be powered in order to function. Battery packs may be used for situations where power is not available, although batteries will have to be changed frequently.

Problem: How to record video?
The receiver connects directly to any recording device with a "video-in" port using a standard RCA cable. (The same type cable you use to connect your VCR to your TV)

Problem: How to view video?
The receiver will connect to any TV or monitor using a standard RCA cable to the "video-in" port. Remember Wireless is advertised as L.O.S. (Line of sight) The actual distance you will get varies depending on the conditions and the placement of the units.
